About The Project
PDX Roasters is a personal project I founded with a few friends in 2013 to help Portland locals and visitors find an amazing cup of coffee, and, to be honest, I was eager to track the growth of the industry. As a home roaster and specialty coffee lover for many, many years it’s a great way to research the industry, collaborate with and learn from some amazing people, and build a tool for fellow coffee lovers.
Goals for the site included:
- Become the definitive listing for coffee roasters in the greater Portland / Vancouver area
- Map each roasting facility
- List roasters near a user’s current location by distance
- Link available retail locations for each roasters’ beans
- Create a flexible but easy content management system for adding new roasters or cafés (Built on Django)
- Allow new roasters to add their own locations, details
